If you are aged 60 or over, you may secure free tax help through Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) and thorough AARP Tax-Aide. You may call 1-800-829-1040 for more information on TCE. To find your nearby AARP Tax-Aide site, call 1-888-227-7669.
Free tax help is also available through Volunteer Incom Tax Assistance (VITA) if your income is under 49,000. Call 1-800-906-9887 to locate your nearest VITA site. Keep in mind that these tend to operate during peak seasons (Feb through Oct).
If your household income does not exceed 250% of the poverty guideline ($27,075 for 1 person, $36,425 for 2 people, $45,775 for 3 people, $55,125 for 4 people etc.) you can get free tax assistance at the Low Income Taxpayer Clinic (LITC) in your area.
